Role of laughter in bakumatsu Japan

For some reason I feel like sharing these essays on objectively quite obscure topics, written for my history course in Oxford. This one is on muzan-e and the political potential of laughter in a time of instability. I also shared an essay on post-war cultures of nothingness & relativism.
